Hosa means “new” in Kannada and explores the cuisine of South India beyond the familiar. Hosa Gurugram brings a refined tropical sensibility to the city of Gurugram, blending warmth, playfulness, and sophistication in equal measure. Designed by Rohini Kapur, the interiors reinterpret the brand’s coastal origins in a contemporary urban setting.

Having previously designed the award-winning Hosa Goa, set within a restored Portuguese bungalow, Kapur sought to recreate that sense of relaxed charm and authenticity in a new context. The Gurugram outpost features a sloping roof with exposed beams and rafters, lending a sense of openness and ease. Custom-printed fabrics adorned with monkeys and parrots introduce whimsy, while palm motifs run as a signature visual thread throughout the space, complemented by living palms that add texture and freshness.

The ceiling serves as the showstopper, thoughtfully illuminated to transform the ambience as the day progresses from bright and breezy afternoons to softly glowing evenings. Together, these details establish a smart-casual, coastal atmosphere, inviting guests to linger over the restaurant’s imaginative South Indian menu and spirited bar programme.

Taking pride of place are two paintings by Srinivas Reddy, a Bengaluru based artist.

As a metaphor of service, Reddy combines the figure of a contemporary construction worker with vahanas of 8 different deities. The construction workers build the infrastructure for humanity with hardly any appreciation or recognition.

Reflecting Hosa’s culinary philosophy of modern coastal expression, the design evokes a sense of escape from the city’s urban intensity. The patio’s soothing white furniture instantly sets a relaxed tone, creating the feeling of a mini Siolim within Gurgaon’s concrete landscape.

Adding an artisanal touch, the bamboo chic blinds, crafted by SN Craft (two brothers renowned for their fine craftsmanship), match the quality of those from Vietnam and Bali, underscoring the restaurant’s commitment to detail and authenticity. SSD Design worked on the architecture and build of the restaurant.

In its entirety, Hosa Gurugram’s design is both contemporary and soulful. A tropical respite that celebrates the joy of lingering, dining, and connecting.
